Prakash Almeida

Founder-Director

Mr. Prakash Almeida is the founder-director of EnglishFountain. He has years of experience of teaching the English language at all levels. He is well known as an accomplished teacher of communication skills in English. He has designed numerous courses delivered through instructor-led class room training as well as correspondence distance education mode.

He has founded EnglishFountain with a great vision. To him, the knowledge of the English language is a potent tool for rapid, across-the-board socio-economic change. English is the language of power and career development. Good knowledge of English is a very personal competitive advantage in today’s fiercely competitive world. In this ear of globalization, knowledge of English is the key to access higher knowledge and lack of this knowledge amongst people will result in what Mr. Almeida calls as “Knowledge-disparity”, which to his mind, would be more harmful than ‘economic disparity’. Excellence in English is critical in developing the ability to derive knowledge and insights out of information.  He traveled extensively in many parts of Maharashtra and critically studied the way English is taught. He found the state of teaching English very lamentable. Read his articles in the ‘download’ section.) He studied the way English as a subject is taught in schools and colleges and found the lamentable fact that hundreds of students commit suicide for failing in exams. Over fifty per cent of students appearing for SSC fail in English and this terminates their chances of taking further education. English his become a ‘Killer’ subject in our schools and colleges.

He took it upon himself to better the teaching of English in school and colleges. He developed new methodologies and teaching and learning tools and aids to make both teaching and learning fun. He found the sad fact that though language learning is basically an enjoyable activity, most of the students do not enjoy learning the language. They find it very tedious and ‘a devil that brings failure in exams’.

Mr. Almeida founded EnglishFountain with help of some eminent teachers and linguists. He wrote many books and special dictionaries both for teachers and students. He prepared a handbook for ‘ready to use lesson plans’ for teachers. He wrote columns in newspapers and various periodicals. Mr. Almeida developed innovative home-study courses to achieve higher excellence in the English language.  Mr. Almeida conducts teacher enrichment programs and workshops. Eminent experts of the English language are invited to share their knowledge and insights.

The word ‘fountain’ in ‘EnglishFountain’ makes the very purpose of this institute crystal clear. Mr. Almeida wants to take English to more and more people yet he is against compromising the teaching in mother tongue of the students.

Mr. Almeida is committed to launch many more such EnglishFountains in all areas.
